Pilot Study 2008

During the summer term of 2008, and in collaboration with Professor Felicia Huppert of the Well-being Institute at Cambridge University, Tonbridge and Hampton Schools took part in a controlled trial of mindfulness training.

During the trial, the mindfulness classes covered the concepts of awareness and acceptance, and the mindfulness practices included the ‘body scan’, mindfulness of breathing, awareness of sounds, mindful awareness of thoughts, and walking meditation.

Students were provided with a specially designed CD, containing three 8-minute audio files of mindfulness exercises outside the classroom. All participants completed a short series of online questionnaires before and after the 4 week intervention period. A paper on this is to be published shortly.

Here is a summary of the findings.
